The marriage of a Catholic to a Muslim brings together two individuals who profess different religious beliefs and are guided by separate matrimonial laws. Most researches tend to point to the fact that interreligious marriages are more likely to have higher rate of failure than marriages in which the parties belong to the same religious tradition. The enormity of the challenges associated with interreligious marriages will be better appreciated if we consider the fact that even marriages involving individuals with the same religious affiliation are not without their challenges. This book exposes some matrimonial provisions in the Catholic Church and in Islam, with the objective of appraising some juridical issues associated with Catholic-Muslim marriages, particularly in the Nigerian context.
Apart from its juridical focus, this work also has some pastoral relevance.
