ECHR: Multiple violations in case brought by Ukraine against Russia concerning Crimea

The case of Ukraine v. Russia (re Crimea) (applications nos. 20958/14 and 38334/18) concerned Ukraine’s allegations of a pattern (“administrative practice”) of violations of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Russian Federation in Crimea beginning in February 2014. It also concerned allegations of a pattern of persecution of Ukrainians for their political stance and/or pro-Ukrainian activity (“Ukrainian political prisoners”) which had occurred predominantly in Crimea but also in other parts of Ukraine or in the Russian Federation since early 2014. EGMR: Grand Chamber hearing on inter-State case Ukraine v. Russia (re Crimea)

The European Court of Human Rights is holding a Grand Chamber hearing on Wednesday 11 September 2019 at 9.15 a.m. in the case of Ukraine v. Russia (re Crimea) (application no. 20958/14). The case concerns Ukraine’s allegations of violations of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Russian Federation in Crimea. A recording of the hearing will be available from 2.30 p.m. on the Court’s Internet site (www.echr.coe.int). After the hearing the Court will begin its deliberations, which will be held in private.
